Leon C. McKenzie, President
Leon C. McKenzie is Founder and President of Sure Sports Lending. He launched Sure Sports Lending in 2009 to focus on an underserviced market of providing athletes with competitive credit facilities. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Finance at West Chester University of Pennsylvania in 1999, before attending Villanova University’s MBA Program. Leon’s professional background includes – Financial Analyst, Sr. Commercial Credit Analyst and Head of Financial Underwriting for regional banks, private lenders and commercial real estate developers. Leon believes in charitable work and is on the Board of Directors of “Supportabilities Foundation”. He also proceeded to establish McKenzie Promising Futures Fund in 2012 as a way to give back to the community that gave him so much. He is a Veteran, having served from 1994-2002, in the transportation division, as his platoon’s combat lifesaver, and as his unit’s physical fitness instructor. In 1994, he was awarded Soldier of the Year for the Fort Jackson Base.
Joleen Matte, Director of Operations
Joleen Matte is Director of Operations for Sure Sports Lending, since 2014, however her involvement in the company began in 2009, as a sounding board for the Founder during the initial startup phase. Joleen attended Bryant University and after graduation realized that she no longer wanted to pursue an accounting career as she shifted her professional emphasis to hospitality. She spent the majority of her career with Exclusive Resorts, a members-only club that provides luxury travel experiences, which brought Joleen to South Florida to manage the day to day operations of luxury condominiums. Prior to Sure Sports, Joleen was the Director of Housekeeping at a boutique hotel in South Beach. In addition to overseeing the day-to-day activities of Sure Sports Lending, Joleen is on the Board of Directors for McKenzie Promising Futures Fund.
Anamaria Verdeja, Marketing Coordinator
Bethesda, MD Office
Anamaria graduated from the University of Miami with a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Studio Art. In the past she has used her experience with strategy and creativity to grow several start-ups. As Marketing Coordinator, she is in charge of planning and organizing all Marketing events and campaigns, coordinating travel and Sports & Spirits parties, and assembling Sure Sports communications. She is responsible for maintaining and growing our CRM database, along with performing the daily functions of operating our Marketing department. In her free time, she enjoys building websites, working on graphic design projects, spending time with her dog and friends, traveling, painting, and playing and watching sports.
Drew Rebling, Credit Analyst
Drew graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Financial Economics. Prior to Sure Sports Lending, Drew has done accounting work within the Miami hospitality industry. As Credit Analyst, Drew provides underwriting analysis and credit support to identify loan structure and terms ensuring both the bank’s and borrower’s needs are met. He is responsible for providing written review of the details uncovered while analyzing the financial statements and player contracts.
Dominique Zelaya, Office and Human Resources Coordinator
Dominique Zelaya, a New York native, is the Office and Human Resources Coordinator at Sure Sports Lending. With over seven years of experience under her belt in the Administrative field, Dominique has her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration and is pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in the same. Her responsibilities range from client correspondences to travel arrangements and her main goal is to ensure the SSL team is successful in their endeavors. Her hobbies include spending time with family, watching comedy shows and helping out with various youth activities in her “home away from home” Belize, Central America.
Tyler J. Endebrock, Social Media Liaison
Tyler is attending the St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, where he is working toward a joint J.D./MBA in Sport Administration degree. After moving from his hometown of Omaha, Tyler received his B.S. in Sport Management and a Minor in Business Administration from the University of Florida. He has previously held multiple positions within the sports and entertainment industry, including working for Sure Sports as the Client & Financials Services Intern and the Social Media & Marketing Intern. Tyler is currently the Director of Marketing for Front Office Sports. As Client & Financial Services Intern, Tyler will be responsible for client communications, reviewing contracts, and assisting with all phases of the loan process. He enjoys watching and playing sports, and working on his car.
Kevin Brown, Client Services Associate
Kevin is the Client Services Associate at Sure Sports Lending. With a degree in Political Science and Psychology from Columbia University, Kevin began his career as a management consultant in his home state of New Jersey. As the Client Services Associate, Kevin is responsible for client relations, reviewing documents and facilitating the lending process. Kevin enjoys spending time outdoors, playing music, and watching sports.
Laura Senn, Administrative Assistant to the President
Laura Senn is an Administrative Assistant at Sure Sports Lending. She is a Virginia native, where she attended Mary Baldwin College and Piedmont Va. Community College for Business Administration. She comes with years of experience in the Administrative field, and performs a range of high-level administrative and office duties to support the President of SSL. She spends her free time with her growing family, cooking, and attending Dolphins games.
Darren Heitner, Legal Counsel
Darren Adam Heitner, Esq. is the Founder of HEITNER LEGAL, a South Florida-based law firm that focuses on business transactions and litigation, intellectual property and sports/entertainment related work. He is a Contributor at FORBES, and Founder/Chief Editor of Sports Agent Blog. In 2011, Darren was named to SportsPro Media’s 10 NEXT. Darren was chosen as a Florida Legal Elite Up and Comer for 2012 and was named to Sports Launch Magazine’s Thirty Under 30 Award winners in sports business. In 2013, Darren was chosen as a Rising Star by a Daily Business Review panel of judges and was among 40 young attorneys with the highest ratings. Darren is the author of “How to Play the Game: What Every Sports Attorney Needs to Know”.
Akil Yisrael is the President and CEO of Focus 9 Enterprises, “A Managerial Financial Consulting Firm” that has developed into a prominent community-based business offering cutting edge services in the fields of taxation, accounting, and financial management. Akil is a graduate of Bethune Cookman University with Bachelor of Science degrees in both Business Administration and Business Management.
